Making the workplace a safe environment
Being safe in the workplace is extremely important and unfortunately accidents at work do happen and they are still very common.
Here at Broad Yorkshire Law, we believe that all employees should be able to do their job without the risk or fear of being injured. In the United Kingdom during 2012/13 alone there were 111,164 reported accidents at work resulting in injury and more than 170 or those workers were killed at a result of someone else’s negligence. Approximately 1.1 million people suffered a work-related illness and in total, 4.3 million days at work were lost as a result of an accident at work.
Broad Yorkshire Law has vast experience when it comes to acting for the families of employees who have horrifically lost their lives at work as a result of negligent employers who have failed to keep all employees safe. We also care for employees who need rehabilitation and support after being severely injured due to an accident at work.
As employers, their duty is to provider all workers with a safe environment to work in, safe work tools, protective clothing and equipment and safe machinery. When employers fail to take precautions and an employee suffers from an accident causing personal injury, financial loss or suffers from an illness, the employee is entitled to claim compensation. Compensation does include any personal injury, financial loss and any illness sustained due to the accident at work.
Many people worry that if they make a claim against their employer they will be treat differently at work or even be dismissed from work, however this is illegal and cannot be done. If you have an accident at work, by making a compensation claim it makes your employer aware of the risks and precautions that they should have taken out initially and this can prevent someone else from being injured. It also highlights the hazard and makes everyone more aware.
If you believe that you have not been provided with the correct health and safety training or safety equipment and you have sustained personal injury due to an accident at work which could have been prevented had your employer taken the necessary precautions, you could be entitled to make a compensation claim.
